Hardware
Unit 1.1 - Hardware and Software
Learning Objectives:
-
Define hardware and its role in computer systems.
-
Identify the main internal components of a computer, including the CPU, processor, and motherboard.
-
Differentiate between RAM and ROM and their functions in a computer system.
-
List common hardware components, such as graphics cards, sound cards, NICs, cameras, and storage devices.
-
Explain the functions of input and output devices in a computer system.
-
Hardware refers to physical components of a computer system such as the keyboard, mouse, monitor, motherboard, processor, and storage devices.
-
Hardware is responsible for inputting, processing, storing, and outputting data in a computer system.
-
The main internal components of a computer include the CPU (Central Processing Unit), motherboard, RAM (Random Access Memory), and storage devices such as hard disk drives (HDD) or solid-state drives (SSD).
-
RAM (Random Access Memory) is a volatile memory that temporarily stores data and instructions while the computer is running. ROM (Read-Only Memory) is a non-volatile memory that contains firmware, such as the BIOS, and cannot be modified.
-
Common hardware components include graphics cards, sound cards, NICs (Network Interface Cards), cameras, and storage devices such as HDD or SSD.
-
Input devices such as keyboards and mice allow users to input data into a computer system, while output devices such as monitors and printers display or output data from a computer system.
